I was inspired to do this portrait, after seeing the children's movie the Last Unicorn. The story behind this painting is, the fairies are trying to help save the unicorns and are using magical crystal shards to help heal and save them from the evil that surrounds them.

Unicorns are magical and mystifying creatures described in ancient Greek and Roman myths. They are said to be an emblem of purity, because of its purity the horn of the unicorn was used for medicines and for alchemical reactions.
