The Picts are one of Europe's mysteries. Their origin and disappearance is clouded with fables, legends and many theories.The Romans called them Pictii due to the tattoes and designs that covered their bodies. They were mighty warrior and sailors, divided into two kingdoms. It is well known, that the Picts were a matrilinear society. Kings were succeeded by their brothers, nephews, or cousins based on the female line. It is believed, due to this, the Pictish race,culture and history vanished.
